Your Class listing is what a family or learner will first see when they discover your Class on SALYM....Make it outstanding, honest and professional !
Your Class Listing is the most important element that a parent will consider to enroll their learners. It is also the first impression that a family might have on you as a teacher/tutor, so take the needed time & care to make it outstanding and appealing while still being accurate, honest and professional ( i.e free of grammatical errors, clear, not misleading, etc). When you are completing your Class Listing, have in mind not only the parents, but also their child.ren, as most of the time, parents will show the Class to them to get their buy-in too, so keep it simple with no complicated words or jargon.
Note that the reviewing Board will have to approve your Class Listing before releasing it to the parents and learners. Major changes to a previously approved class need also to go through an approval process.
So here are some guidance to how to fill your Class listing. The bellow tutorial video is also a useful visual to complete your class Listing.
Group Name : This is the Title of your Class. One sentence that describes exactly what the class is about. The name convention should follow this model: Name of the Topic_age or Grade_Language of instruction_Type of Class ) . Ex : < Introduction to Addition & Multiplication for Grade 2_ English_One Time Class>, <French Alphabet and How to Pronounce it, Age 4-6, Recuring Class>
Photo : Choose a clear image that is engaging and in relation of your Group subject and learners age. Ensure you have all needed copyright on the images you publish on SALYM website. Some photo websites allow you to use their work with attribution. this is fine to add at the bottom of About the Class section
Group Description : This should be a summary of your Class . In 1-2 sentences summarize what your Class is about, and expected learning. This synopsis appears in the home page visible to parent/learner before they decide to choose your class. So it’s highly recommended to write for both adult and their young learners
Class Type :
SALYM right now allows the creation of two types of Classes.
One Time Class : Same class is repeated in every session, Ideal for first time tutors and help parents to know you more. Parent will buy and pay one Class a time.
Recurring Classes : This is a weekly Class meeting where you will meet your learners for a min duration of 2 weeks and max to 8 weeks. Parents will buy a and pay for the whole duration as one block.
Class Seats : Number of learners who will join your Group. It’s recommended to keep your Group small for a more effective learning experience. Your number of students also varies depending on their ages and the duration of your session. If you session for example is 30 min for Age Group 4-6 year old, it’s recommended not to have more than 5 learners. If your session is 60 min long for a group of 10-12 old… then you can allow to have more learners.
About the Class: In this section, you need to include all the details about your Class so families can make informed decisions if this group has the learning objectives that meet their child.ren needs. Give as much details as needed to what you are teaching, if it needs any prerequisite or previous knowledge, how your class is structured, what is your teaching style. What are your expectations from your learners, is the class requiring interaction either with you or with each other or is it more a lecture style, etc
Learning Goals : Consider this a summary to the learning experience. Let families know at the end of this Class, what their learners will learn
Starting Date : This is optional for One Time classes, but recommended to add for recurring ones so families know when is the next enrollment week
Group Age : Group Age are divided by small age differences to ensure compatibility of learners levels. You can select the range that is aligned with your content ( ex : Reading intro for KG…is more suitable for learners of age range between 4 and 6 years old)
Session Duration : It’s important to indicate how long your session last, families will compare this against the session price.
Teaching Language : Our learners come from different countries and each learner might be comfortable in more than one language. While English or French should be the master languages ( for non Language classes of course) , please indicate what other languages ( than English or French) you might use to support your class if needed.
Teacher Experience : Let families know why you are the best tutor for their kids, show any relevant experience you have related you your topic, how long you have been delivering it… depending on your Class Age targets and Topics you might want to adjust your experience content. As a reminder, do not provide any external link to your profile ( social Media or anything else), Families and learners can check your full profile from the platform itself.
Needed Supplies : Any materials that the learners will need to complete your Class should be listed in this section. This may include supplies for a craft project, ingredients for a recipe, or books/textbooks.
Price : Classes cannot be free, Unless you are offering a free trial session. Prices can only be round numbers $10, not 9.99$.
Remember that Prices are set in USD no matter where you are located, and SALYM subtract a service fee of 15% of each family enrolment. This is to say, Price your classes with the final earning you want to see in your pocket. Ex: you want to earn 10$ from each learner enrollment, then price your Class at about 12$.
As a general rule, it’s highly recommended not to overprice nor to underprice your Classes. A SALYM survey indicated that parents are willing to pay between 6-10$ for a 30 minutes session. Of course the subjects you will teach and the number of open seats along with your class duration are all factors to consider while setting a reasonable price for your class.
